The Ten Showing Commandments
from the Side Saddle Association 2007 Summer Newsletter:
1. Thou shalt not overtake another competitor on the inside when passing the judge
2. Thou shalt not steal another's place in the line up under the pretext "I thought it was me they were calling in"
3. Thou shall not allow thy groom into the ring in scruffy clothes and they shall wear a hat
4. Thou shall not allow thy groom to bring the contents of the lorry into the ring
5. Thou shall not be unpleasant or rude to a steward, thy groom or thy mother who has been up since 4am plaiting and driving
6. Thou shall ignore persons outside the ring offering verbal assistance whilst in the ring
7. Thou shall never leave the ring without first seeking the Judge's permission
8. Thou shall at all times be polite and pleasant to the Judge, even if thou are thinking 'blind old bat...' or 'silly old trout...'
9. Thou shall smile and say 'thank you' when handed your rosette even if thou disagree with the result
10. Thou shall turn up for Championships, parades and prizegivings if required even if it is a long way home or thou want to change

Perriland Politician
From Horse & Hound (7vi07) in their "Scene and Heard" section:
' "It was a breath of fresh air to see a coloured horse with so much quality."
Richard Mills was full of praise for his in-hand champion, Perriland Politician (Harroway Mr Harlequin - Morning Magic).
Bought as a weanling from Jenny Borrow, the two-year-old - jointly owned by Maria Pook and Mandy Burr - took the coloured championship and went on to stand reserve supreme in-hand.'
And this is from an email sent to us late last night by Maria:
"I just wanted to let you know that Gordon (Perriland Politician) won the coloured youngstock qualifier at South of England yesterday and went Reserve Champion coloured, he was also second in the anglo/part-bred arab 2/3 yr old class and also went Reserve Champion in that! We're chuffed to bits with him. He behaved beautifully (even when the motorbike display started up) and showed himself brilliantly."

Harroway Catkin
This is Harroway Catkin owned by Debbie Edmundson and ridden by her daughter Mary. There was a delightful quote in Horse & Hound (31v07) from Debbie after Catkin was 2nd and Reserve in the 143cms class at BSPS Area 7 "Whatever we ask of her Harroway Catkin rises to the occasion. She's done four double clears in [show jumping] British Novice and double clears in newcomers."
Catkin is out of our daughter Olivia's pony the late brilliant Knightwood Zola Budd.

OPENING ENTRY

This blogsite is intended to help people interested in Harroway Mr Harlequin (a.k.a. Harlequin or 'Quin).
It will show, hopefully, pictures of him, his family, and offspring and some of those who wait on him.
Additionally it will, we hope, be of interest to those who are interested in the prospect of sending a mare to Harlequin.
As well as all this we will try to keep you up to date about other horses and ponies associated with Harroway.
